Venture INC is a programme uniquely crafted to support Keppelites in identifying potential high-impact ideas that are strategically aligned, that leverage Keppel’s existing assets, and harness business model environment trends.

This 4-day ideation sprint, led by innovation experts, will take you on a journey towards churning and refining ideas that could deliver new value to existing clients or potentially unlock new ones.

NURTURE.

ATTEND THE VENTURE INC IDEATION SPRINT

This sprint will be led by expert trainers from Rainmaking to guide you in generating and validating your ideas. You will develop and apply critical skills and methodologies to kick start your intrapreneurship journey

PITCH

At the end of the event, you will pitch your idea to innovation experts and venture capitalists with a chance for up to 3 teams to enter the incubation phase

CREATE.

INCUBATE

Incubated teams will run a series of experiments to validate your value propositions, prototype a solution and build an investment case for your venture. You will have access to Rainmaking mentors and proprietary digital training platform

GET INVESTMENT

Validated and tested ideas with potential to become high-impact ventures will be pitched for a chance to receive seed investment from Keppel to help kick-start the creation of the venture.

Work with colleagues from different business lines to stretch your thinking and come at problems with a new perspective

Develop or explore new ideas which can drive real growth for Keppel and pitch them directly to industry experts and decision-makers

What Happens Next

On the last day of the sprint, up to 3 teams will be selected by the judges and invited to participate in a 3-month incubation programme to validate their new ventures with end consumers.

Through this 3-month period you will be mentored by Rainmaking experts to iterate on your idea, prototype and build an investment case for your new venture.

At the end of the incubation period, you will have a chance to be funded by Keppel to continue building this venture

Who Should Apply

All Keppelites are invited to apply. The programme is designed for anyone looking to work alongside cross-functional teams while learning to build and validate new ventures.

To submit a successful application, you should:

  • Have identified an unrepresented customer pain point
  • Be keen on learning to launch products and create new businesses
  • Have new ideas that aim to deliver new products and services to either new or existing customers
  • Be able to attend a 4-day sprint in Singapore between 4-9th December
  • (If selected for incubation) Be able to block off time for a 3 month-period between January to March 2020 to validate your new business model

Mr Sebastien Lamy was appointed to the Board of M1 on 11 June 2019.
Mr Lamy joined Keppel in 2018 and is Managing Director at Keppel Corporation, heading Group Strategy, Development and M&A. He also heads Keppel Technology and Innovation, which aims at the introduction of new technologies across Keppel’s businesses.
Prior to joining Keppel, Mr Lamy was a senior Partner with consulting firm Bain & Company, where he worked for 17 years. Among his several appointments, he was the head of Bain’s Southeast Asia Digital Practice, as well as Head of the firm’s Private Equity and Transaction Services Practice in the region.
He is a Director of Kepventure Pte Ltd., Keppel Renewable Energy Pte. Ltd., as well as Konnectivity Pte. Ltd. He is also on the board of the Community Foundation of Singapore (CFS).
Mr Lamy holds an MBA from Insead, and an MSc in Business Administration from HEC Paris

Sui Ling joined Wavemaker in 2017. As Operating Partner, she is responsible for helping the later stage companies in Wavemaker’s portfolio with business development, follow-on financing, and eventual exits. She spent 20 years in investment banking raising capital for high growth companies and executing cross-border M&A. Her last role in investment banking prior to exiting the industry was as the Co-head of Corporate Finance SEA at BNP Paribas. Prior to that, she was Executive Director of Investment Banking at JP Morgan Singapore. Sui Ling started her career with Merrill Lynch New York followed by stints in Singapore and London.
Sui Ling serves on the boards of several publicly-listed, private and not-for-profit entities. She is currently a member of the boards of SGX-listed companies CDL Hospitality Trust and Parkway Life REIT, where she also chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the Nominating & Remuneration Committee.
She graduated from Wellesley College with a Bachelor of Arts in French and Economics.

Samuel Hall is Partner and CEO ASEAN @ Rainmaking, a corporate venture builder and startup engagement engine for corporates in Singapore. He works with corporate partners to identify, validate and build new ventures and business lines, as well as generating short-term P&L impact through collaboration with growth stage startups. Samuel previously ran the Startupbootcamp FinTech accelerator in Singapore.

Weixiang is a Deputy Director with EDB New Ventures in the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). In this role, he works with Singapore-based strategic corporate partners to create, grow and co-invest in new innovative ventures.

He was previously a key member of EDB’s Global Operations management team and was based in Mumbai and Boston from 2010 to 2017 where he was responsible for EDB’s investment promotion strategies and operations in key markets, including India, Middle East, Israel, the US New England region and Canada. He worked closely with multi-national corporations and startups on their Asia Pacific growth strategies and investments in Singapore.

Before his overseas assignments, he was a founding member of the multi-agency Clean Energy Programme Office, that is responsible for planning,synergizing and executing strategies and efforts to develop and grow theCleantech industry in Singapore. As part of this role, he was responsible for initiating, structuring and administering the first programme in Singapore that incentivized the adoption of clean energy.

Weixiang graduated from University of California-Berkeley in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science (Chemical Engineering) degree and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree. He is also a Sloan Fellow with a Master of Business Administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management.

Vivek is currently an Executive Director covering the Power & Utilities industry within the institutional banking group of DBS Bank Ltd. He has been in DBS since December 2010, having previously covered the telecom, media and technology sector within the institutional banking group, and having been the country head of DBS Dubai for 5 years. He has also worked with Merrill Lynch in London and KPMG Corporate Finance in Singapore. He started his career as a software engineer in India. With over 20 years of industry experience, Vivek has a Masters in Finance from London Business School, an MBA from Asian Institute of Management, and a Bachelors degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from India.
